How it all started
Dimpsy was founded in 2019 by Juno Alderbrook, who had spent eleven years lighting theatre, dance and touring opera.
That work is the management of one variable — not brightness on its own, but the relationship between how bright a light is and how warm it becomes as it comes down. Moving into a Ghent apartment with a ceiling fixture that could not be removed, Alderbrook found the convention was not done badly indoors so much as absent altogether.
The company exists to carry that convention into the home. It designs and assembles its own lamps in one building, measures every head across its full dimming range rather than sampling at full output, and has taken no outside investment. The first Dimpsy One shipped in March 2021. There are three lamps today, and no fourth is planned until there is something the three cannot do.

Everyone here owns something end to end. The person who designs an optic is the person who measures it, watches it fail, and decides what to change — there is no handover, no ticket queue, and nobody whose job is to protect a decision they did not make. It is a small company and that is the whole advantage.
